Succession Creator Jesse Armstrong Has Teased Season 5 Plans Before
Author: Lisa Bennett / 2023-05-29 09:18:53In a surprising twist, Succession fans may have reason to hope for more Machiavellian maneuvering from the Roy family. Despite previous announcements that Season 4 would mark the end of the critically acclaimed series, creator Jesse Armstrong has hinted at the possibility of a fifth season.
During an interview Kieran Culkin, who portrays Roman Roy, revealed that Armstrong had teased potential ideas for a continuation beyond Season 4. Culkin shared, «Jesse told us at the season's start that he thought this was the last one. And then he explained the entire season to me. When he finished, I said, 'Well, that kind of sounds like the end,' and he goes, 'Well, it could be, but...' and then he just spat out three ideas that he said were just off the top of his head, and that were all brilliant ideas for a fifth season.»
However, Armstrong himself has contradicted these statements, stating that Season 4 will indeed mark the definitive end of the Roy family's story. He emphasized, «It's pretty definitively the end, so then it just might be uncomfortable having to sort of dissemble like a politician for ages about it. Hopefully, the show is against bullshit, and I wouldn't like to be bullshitting anyone when I was talking about it.»
While hopes for a Season 5 may have been dashed, fans may wonder if there are any plans for a Succession spin-off. HBO's head of drama, Francesca Orci, addressed this possibility, stating, «I'll never say never, but my instinct and based on a number of conversations about the evolution of Succession and these characters, at this stage, there is no intention of spinning any one character off.» Orci further added that if Armstrong were to create another series, it would be entirely original, possibly exploring new concepts and ideas.
