Former Marine Phillip Thomas has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempting to kidnap Daria Berenato, who is better known by her stage name, WWE wrestler Sonya Deville. The incident occurred in August 2020, when Thomas broke into Berenato's home armed with a knife, zip ties, and other equipment with the intention of abducting her.

As a result of the attempted kidnapping, Thomas pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempted kidnapping, burglary, and aggravated stalking. During his sentencing hearing, Berenato spoke about the traumatic impact the incident had on her and her family, stating that she feared for her life during the attack.

The judge in the case described Thomas' actions as «a premeditated and violent crime,» noting that the severity of the sentence was appropriate given the nature of the offense.

After taking a break from wrestling following the attack, Berenato has since returned to the ring and expressed her gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in bringing Thomas to justice.
